Even before Nick proposed, the idea of designing and sending Save the Date cards to all our family and friends was one of the most exciting parts of the wedding planning process to me. Fast forward to August 2020 when Nick popped the question; I found myself researching the best place to order Save the Dates for cheap! Since I have a background in design, I knew I wanted to order from a company that allowed me to use my own design. It turns out, finding a company that will do that at an affordable price is harder than you’d think!
GETTING STARTED
Your Save the Dates are the first impression people have of your wedding, so it’s important to make sure every detail is perfect! When you start the Save the Date design process, your first big decision is whether to use a photo on the cards. I was 100% sure that I wanted to use a photo because I am so obsessed with our engagement photos! I had a hard time choosing the perfect one. Basic Invite has a ton of Save the Date designs and a variety of photo and non-photo templates. All of the templates include double-sided printing too, so you can add photos or text to the back of the card. They even offer magnetic Save the Dates and postcard Save the Dates if that’s more your style!
It doesn’t matter if you use a pre-made Basic Invite template or upload your own design. The price is the same either way! This was a major selling point for me. On most sites, it costs almost double to use your own design. Once you decide on a template you love, the color customization options are endless. Almost every element of every template is customizable! There are over 180 colors to choose from, including gold foil, rose gold foil, and silver foil. The preview instantly updates when you make a change so you can see exactly what the final product will look like. Basic Invite makes customizing stationery easier than ever, especially for people with no design experience!
THE DETAILS
I’m a very detail-oriented person, so it was important to me that every element of our Save the Date design was perfect, including the envelopes. I was so excited when I found out that Basic Invite offers free envelope printing on every order! Like every other aspect of the design process, the envelopes are fully customizable. There are over 40 different envelope colors available, so your Save the Date can make a great impression before it is even opened! I’m a huge font nerd, so I carefully went through all of Basic Invite’s fonts and hand-selected the perfect ones for my envelopes. I am beyond happy with how they turned out, and I’m even happier that I didn’t have to hand-address every single envelope!
The best part is, all of Basic Invite’s envelopes are peel and seal so you don’t have to lick hundreds of gross-tasting adhesive strips. This makes it so simple to assemble your Save the Dates and get them out the door quickly! It was only a few hours from the time our Save the Dates arrived to the time I dropped them off at the post office. We also personalized our Save the Dates with wax seals that I bought on Amazon. They were the perfect finishing touch!
CUSTOM SAMPLES
Even though I knew I was going to use my own custom design for our Save the Dates, there were so many Basic Invite templates I fell in love with. Luckily, Basic Invite allows you to order custom samples of any design with all of your wedding details and colors! They are one of the few wedding websites that offer this. Custom samples allow you to make sure you like the colors, template design, and paper quality before you order a ton of invitations.
THE END RESULT
Like I mentioned, I ultimately chose to use a custom design that I created in Photoshop and Procreate. Uploading my design to the Basic Invite website couldn’t have been any easier! It turned out absolutely perfect and the paper and print quality is top-notch. All the hours I poured into making sure every detail was perfect definitely paid off. Basic Invite made my vision come to life! For reference, all the Basic Invite Save the Date cards measure 5.6 inches by 4.4 inches. The envelopes are 5.9 inches by 4.5 inches.
If you’ve ever planned a wedding or ordered Save the Dates, you know how quickly costs can add up! I like to have every detail exactly the way I like it, and I have expensive taste. Basic Invite allows almost unlimited customization options so you can design a wedding stationery suite to match your wedding theme. The best part is how affordable the whole process is! Most of Basic Invite’s Save the Date cards start at only $0.79 per card (and remember, that includes envelope addressing).
Basic Invite is the perfect one-stop-shop for all of your wedding stationery needs. Did you know they also offer free completely customizable wedding websites to match your invitation suite?! Creating our wedding stationery suite and website has been a seamless process thanks to Basic Invite. I am so excited (and relieved) to have our “send out Save the Dates” milestone checked off my wedding to-do list!
