I am SO excited to finally share this with the world; this is the very first post in my new wedding series! I can’t wait to take you on this journey and share my tips for pulling together the perfect wedding. If you follow me on Instagram, you might know that my highschool sweetheart Nick and I got engaged in August. As you probably guessed, I’ve been doing some hardcore wedding planning the last few months. Our wedding day is quickly approaching and I have so much exciting wedding-related content to share. Over the next 6 months, The Wedding Series will cover all things wedding – from planning tips and inspiration to advice, lifehacks, and products I love!
OUR STORY
Of course, I have to kick off this series by sharing our engagement story! But first, let’s back up a little bit. My fiance Nick and I went to the same high school. Since our last names both start with “H”, our lockers were right by one another. We had a few classes together and I considered him a good friend during my high school years. Obviously, that friendship developed into something bigger!
I asked Nick to be my date to my Junior Prom and on April 7th, 2013, we “officially” started dating. We have been best friends ever since! He truly is my other half, my soulmate, “the one”. We’ve traveled the world together, created a home together, and lived through every single one of the last 8 year’s ups and downs together. Now, fast forward to August 2020, when Nick proposed!
THE PROPOSAL
My little sister Madi and Nick have always had a great relationship. When it was time for him to ring shop, they went together to help pick out the perfect one. A lot of couples shop together for an engagement ring, but I didn’t want to do that. I wanted the proposal experience to be a little bit of a surprise for me. Nick and Madi picked out my dream ring, and I couldn’t love it any more!
In the summer, Nick and I spend a lot of time at my family lakehouse up north with my family. We love spending summer days up there with family – there’s nothing better! It’s one of our favorite places to be. On the morning of August 23rd, 2020, we took the pontoon boat out fishing. We caught a total of zero fish, but we still had fun! When we got back, we were hanging out on the docked pontoon fishing. We were talking and each doing our own thing when Nick suddenly got really quiet.
When I turned around, he was kneeling behind me on the pontoon with an open ring box in his hand! I said yes and started crying, mostly because I was so happy, but also because I was so surprised. I had absolutely NO idea that he was going to propose this August weekend! Admittedly I’m not great with surprises, so I assumed I would have figured out his plan. Somehow, he successfully pulled off making the proposal a complete surprise!
WHAT “THE WEDDING SERIES” IS ALL ABOUT
In September 2020, we had our engagement photos taken by my best friend, Cait Louise Co. She did such an amazing job capturing our love for each other! I am still blown away by the result; I never expected to love our engagement photos so much. Our engagement photoshoot was the first big step we took toward planning our wedding, and since then it’s been a whirlwind! Throughout the planning process, I have discovered some amazing brands that offer products and services to make this phase of life so much more fun and so much easier. I’ll be sharing them in this series over the next 6 months, so be sure to stay tuned!
I have seriously loved planning my dream wedding the last few months. Of course, it’s a lot of work and stressful at times, but I know it will be worth it in the end. Leave a comment letting me know any wedding planning questions you have so I can answer them in this series!
